Choosing Glasses for Your Face Shape

If you have to wear glasses because of your eyesight, it’s a good idea to find a pair that’s as flattering as possible. Believe it or not, your face shape plays a significant role in whether a certain style of glasses will look good on you or not.  A pair that fits well should frame your face and ideally make it look as oval as possible.

To determine your face shape, pull all your hair away from your face and look directly in a mirror. What shape do you see? You can ask a friend to help you figure out your face shape.

Finding glasses for Asian faces can be a bit of a pain but don’t worry companies like Kaioptics are bringing their A Game into the market. Plus, there are so many options when you go shopping for glasses. It’s just so confusing, right?  Use the guide below to figure out what your face shape is among the five primary face shapes.

Oval

People with oval faces have a slightly rounded forehead and chin. If you have this face shape, you’re lucky! Almost all frames will suit you. You can be as adventurous as you like! To balance your face shape, go for an eyeglass frame that is as wide as the broadest part of your face. Avoid wearing glasses too big for your face. You don’t want to hide that pretty face of yours. When it comes to color, choose glasses that match your hair color or your eye color.

Heart-shaped

If your face is the widest at the forehead, you have a heart-shaped face. Some people also call this a base-up triangle face shape. To reduce the width of your forehead, go for frames that are wider than your forehead or have an exaggerated brow line. Cat-eye frames look great on people with this face shape!

Oblong

An oblong face is longer than it is wide with a long, straight cheek line. Try frames that have more depth than width, especially those with a decorative accent at the temple. Go for square frame and wide pilot style. These will give your face a shorter and wider perception. Stay away from rectangular and narrow shapes. They will add length to your face.

Square

A square face has a strong jaw and broad forehead, and the width and length of the face are proportionate. To offset your strong features, go for narrower frames, or frames that have more width than depth. Narrow oval and round frames look great on square faces! Narrow and round frames will draw away the focus from the shape of your face.

Round

Round faces are usually short in length with no angles. The width and length are approximately the same proportion. Rounder frames are a great option for those with this face shape. Angular narrow eyeglasses would also make a round face appear thinner and longer. The rounder your face is, the angular should be your glasses.
