Contrasting Streetstyles

DARMSTADT – At the time my parents immigrated from Moscow to Germany, they moved to a small city called Darmstadt. I grew up there and I’m still living there today. Of course, I’m very glad to be here and to have the opportunity to get a good education. However, every night before I go to sleep, I wish that my family had moved to a bigger city like Berlin, where fashion has a greater focus.

Fortunately, Moscow is like my second home. I visit the metropolis every year and it’s absolutely different to Darmstadt. In Darmstadt, business is lethargic and easy. In contrast with Moscow, where everybody is in a rush – nobody has time for your questions or pleas, and you have to be very tough to make a career in such a complex city. The fashion closely reassembles this culture.
Almost every woman is wearing highheels and tries to be as stylish as they can. To be honest, they often look horrible because of bad quality clothing. Garment in Russia is very expensive and not everyone has the opportunity to have a wardrobe filled with high fashion labels. When you see a women who does have the money, then she looks stunning!

In Darmstadt, everybody’s style is casual and I have the impression that the people living here are not really open to different styles, which disappoints me a lot. Therefore, I can definitely say that the street style in Moscow is way more interesting than in Darmstadt!

To summarize, I am grateful to live in Darmstadt, because this place and the surrounding people have made me to the person I am today. As a matter of fact, I do not think that Germany has had an influence on my personal style, but rather the European fashion metropolises Milan and Paris.
