Fashion Trends to Watch This Autumn

As we approach the mid-point of 2018, now is the perfect time to start getting your wardrobe ready for the autumn months ahead. The more fashion conscious among us always find this time of year to be one of the most difficult. Choosing the right look for the autumn months isn’t easy. While summer lends itself well to warm reds and oranges, and winter is best defined with cooler blues and whites, finding something that is distinctly autumnal has always been a challenge for fashionistas.

While things aren’t any easier this year, there are a number of fashion trends which have started to emerge and which we expect to perform strongly over the proceeding several months. The following trends are the ones that we expect to dominate fashion considerations until the end of the year.

80s Resurgence

The trend for retro fashion has always existed. However, the exact decades and styles which current fashion designers call upon in their own contemporary designs change with the times. For the last couple of years, it is the so-called ‘hippy-chic’, reminiscent of the fashion of the 60s, that has dominated fashion designers thinking.

However, it is now the 1980s that are providing inspiration for the latest generation of fashion designers. There are two main groups of 80s-inspired styles which are currently taking hold. One of these embraces the more formal aspects of 80s fashion, while the other has remained focused on recreating the more casual styles of the decade. Expect lots of thick nipped waists, long legs, and strong shoulder styles.

Accessories

Accessories have become an increasingly popular way of augmenting existing outfits and looks, creating something completely new by adding just a few accessories. There are two forms that accessorising can take. The first of these is the addition of small decorative touches in order to enhance the existing features of a piece.

In other cases, accessorising can take the form of additional items which are worn separately to the rest of the outfit. For example, this Oroton bag worn by Meghan Markle looks exceptionally elegant and stylish.

Sneakers

When Nicholas Ghesquiere unveiled the futuristic looking pair of thick-soled sneakers that he had developed for Louis Vuitton, the fashion world was taken aback. Few could ever have predicted that such a tired and unremarkable fashion item could elicit such excitement, and yet this is exactly what happened.

Since then, a number of different designers have started to put forward their own designs for similar footwear. The year 2018 looks set to be the year that the sneaker gets its own turn at resurgence.

Trouser Suits

If there is one type of outfit that justifies a high price tag, it is a perfectly tailored suit. There are few things in life which are quite so luxurious and as clear an indicator of status and style than a well-made suit. It is possible these days to find suits in just about any style or design you could ever hope for. This is because the concept has been bubbling away in the background of the fashion world for some time.

It is now, in 2018, that the trouser suit looks set to finally mature and blossom into the quintessential fashion item that it has always had the potential to be.

The above trends are just a selection of the ones that look set to dominate, this year at least, in the fashion industry.
